2017 Legislative Report

REDISTRICTING In January, U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson, Circuit Judge Bill Pryor and Chief District Judge Keith Watkins ruled that race had been used improperly in the 2012 redistricting of the Alabama Legislature. Twelve majority black Districts were ruled unconstitutional. The Court agreed that by creating  majority black districts, the lawmakers reduced the influence of blacks in other districts.
